42% OF RUSSIANS CALLED THE CRISIS A MAJOR EVENT
Rustem Falyakhov 26.12.2016,
The crisis in Russia has ceased to be an abstract macroeconomic value, not related to personal wallet. More than 40% of Russians called the crisis and rising prices the most memorable events of 2016.
The symbol of the year for our compatriots was the crisis, said the research holding ROMIR interviewed 1 thousand respondents aged from 18 to 60 years of age and older, living in cities with population over 100 thousand people. The difficult economic situation in the country overshadowed for Russians, all other events, both within Russia and abroad.
If the answer to the question "ROMIR" on the most significant Russian events of 2016, the opinions of Russians were divided in the following way. Every fourth Respondent (25%) named the main event of the year, the crisis in the country.
Another 17% of respondents this year was memorable for the rising prices and high inflation. Thus, 42% of Russians year is associated with the difficult economic situation.
Every fifth Russian was named event of the year the ongoing military operation in Syria. And as many said doping sandal. While the elections to the state Duma called the most memorable of the least frequently — only 2% of respondents.
However, our citizens are not as apolitical as it might seem. Politics interests them. Answering the question about the most important events in the world, more than a third (36%) of respondents called the election of Donald trump the new American President, another 30% — the fight against "Islamic state" (banned in Russia).
Evaluation of "ROMIR" was close to that previously given the all-Russia centre of studying of public opinion. Polls in early 2016 recorded a growth of anxiety of Russians about increasing prices and the economic situation in General. This was indicated by 23% of respondents.
There is nothing surprising in the fact that the crisis in the minds of Russians took to the leading position.
Last year on the crisis and the devaluation of the ruble said only 9% of respondents surveyed by the "ROMIR". And now almost five times more.
It is noteworthy that expectations for this year were quite rosy. A third of Russians (33%) hoped for improvement in the economy in 2016, shows a global survey of Gallup (it was held in December 2015). Pessimistic was then configured 27% of our compatriots. At the same time Russia was on the 21st place in the overall ranking economic hopes of 68 (compared to 27 th place in 2015).
The crisis situation in the economy so deeply in the consciousness of Russians, not just change consumer behavior, said the President of "ROMIR" Andrey milehin.
If in crisis 1998 Russian buyer after the Soviet deficit unrestrained saturated their needs, focusing on cheap goods and not paying attention to the brand, in 2008 he becomes more selective, prefers branded products. But after 2014, after a new round of crisis, caused by geopolitical situation, the user again changes his behavior and goes on a rational consumption model chooses cheaper products.
"However, 76% of customers believe the crisis will end, and end soon — in 2017. Part of the already acquired habits, buyers will continue after the crisis, which permanently change the consumer environment," Milekhin said.
The pessimism of the Russians concerning the economy slightly decreased, but still significant. This is also evidenced by the survey of the Institute of statistical studies. In the third quarter improved personal financial situation noticed 8% of respondents, a decline of 40% (compared to 7 and 41% in the previous quarter). Expect an improvement of 9%, deterioration — 22% of respondents. Significantly reduced the number of those who negatively assesses changes in the economy over the year: from 63 to 52% of respondents.
The pessimists are probably right, the Director of the Center for business research Institute of the HSE George Ostapkovich.
"On the restoration of the level of living speech in the near future is not: real disposable monetary incomes fall for two years, and the intensity of this process is not reduced," he says.
Real disposable income in November 2016, compared with the corresponding period of the previous year decreased by 5.6%, for ten months by 5.8%, according to Rosstat. And improved moods, according to Ostapkovich, due to the fact that the Russians have adapted to the "new reality".
